ABOUT US
Timbuktu Institute - International Center for Peace and Development: we support institutions, businesses and investors to operate successfully in fragile areas through in-depth local intelligence, advanced risk management and community facilitation that creates sustainable value.
West Africa and the Sahel are the historical focus of the Timbuktu Institute's work. This region is marked by multidimensional challenges: political instability, insecurity, demographic pressures, climate vulnerabilities, and community tensions. In these contexts, the Timbuktu Institute supports development actors through: in-depth contextual analyses; independent evaluations and monitoring mechanisms; strategic advice for program adaptation; and regular briefings on security and political developments. The goal is to strengthen the relevance and effectiveness of interventions in highly uncertain environments.
In the Maghreb region, the Timbuktu Institute conducts analyses focused on governance issues, political stability, and regional dynamics. This area also represents a key space for interaction between sub-Saharan Africa, the Sahel, and Europe. The research aims to: shed light on national and cross-border dynamics; analyze the regional impacts of crises; support the strategic thinking of institutional actors. The Sahel is facing multidimensional crises involving insecurity, climate pressures, institutional fragility, and socioeconomic vulnerabilities. The Timbuktu Institute is working there to support partners operating in high-risk environments. Interventions focus on: analyzing conflict and resilience dynamics; evaluating programs in insecure contexts; and providing strategic support for crisis prevention and stabilization.
The Great Lakes region is characterized by protracted conflicts, human displacement, and intercommunal tensions. The Timbuktu Institute conducts in-depth analyses there to support conflict-sensitive interventions. Activities include: analysis of political and security dynamics; evaluation of humanitarian and development programs; independent monitoring of interventions in unstable contexts.
